Barbora Růžičková

serves as Vice-Dean for International Relations and as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business. She holds a PhD from the Faculty of International Relations at the same university, where she focused on academic work related to the implementation of UN resolutions within the framework of sustainable development, UN approaches to addressing extreme poverty, typologies of UN structural change, and discourse analysis of sustainable development since the adoption of global UN agendas after the year 2000.

Her specialization lies in the implementation of UN resolutions and international institutions. As part of her research activities, she completed a stay at Columbia University in New York at the Earth Institute and participated in the UN’s global initiative “Sustainable Development Solutions Network” led by Professor Jeffrey Sachs.

In addition to her academic career, she has substantial experience in public administration. For nearly five years, she prepared briefing materials for the Czech Republic’s participation in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), as well as for OECD negotiations within the Environmental Policy Committee, while working in the Department of Multilateral Relations at the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.

Barbora Růžičková has extensive expertise in international negotiations within global institutions. She coordinated cooperation and monitored the fulfilment of the Czech Republic’s commitments to UNEP, OECD, and UNESCO, and assessed the outcomes of high-level UN summits related to sustainable development. She analysed and prepared the presentation of Czech positions on UN General Assembly resolutions. She also served as a delegate in the international negotiating committee on the global plastic agreement, focusing on financial mechanisms and treaty implementation.

At the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, she was the lead delegate to the Council of the EU’s Working Party on International Environmental Issues (WPIEI Global), which she chaired during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. During the Presidency, she also co-organized an event with UNEP in Brussels titled “Strengthening Multilateralism through Science.” She has also served as a national expert at the European Commission, within the Directorate-General for International Partnerships, in the unit for “Sustainable Development Policy and Global Partnerships with the UN and International Financial Institutions,” where she focused on cooperation between the European Commission and the United Nations.
