Silvester van Koten
Silvester van Koten is an economist specializing in energy economics, market design, and experimental economics. His research focuses on the functioning and regulation of energy markets, auction mechanisms, and behavioural aspects of decision-making, applying experimental methods and market modelling. Since 2021, he has been the principal investigator of research within the Strategy AV21 – Sustainable Energy at CERGE-EI.
At the Faculty of Economics, he worked as an Assistant Professor starting in 2013, later as an Associate Professor (2014–2019), and also as Head of the Department of Institutional, Environmental and Experimental Economics. He taught courses in microeconomics, experimental and behavioural economics, game theory, and energy economics, supervised theses, and developed faculty research projects. Since 2016, he has also been a researcher at CERGE-EI, teaching primarily energy economics and applied experimental methods. Since 2018, he has also served as an Associate Professor at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.

Silvester has worked at international institutions, including the Florence School of Regulation (European University Institute), where he was a Jean Monnet Fellow (2010–2012). He is the author of publications in prestigious international journals such as Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Journal of Regulatory Economics, European Economic Review, European Journal of Law and Economics, and Cognitive Science. His awards include the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (2021), second prize in the Loyola de Palacio Dissertation Competition (2009), and several research grants, including projects funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) focused on renewable energy auctions, forward markets, and market design.
